the Body Work

Our newest offering :

T H A I MASSAGE

Thai massage is a form of bodywork/energy work that is based on a combination of influences from China, India and indigenous Thai traditions.
Practiced for centuries by Thai monks, and forming a central component of Thai medicine, Thai massage is believed to have originated over 2,500 years ago in India. Originally developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, the physician to Siddhartha Gautama - the Buddha - more than 2,500 years ago in India.

Thai massage incorporates a combination of acupressure and yoga like stretching.
It is different from most forms of massage in that there is no oil used, the therapist uses a thick mat on the floor and the client remains completely closed throughout the session.
It is often described as getting “yoga done to you”.

More dynamic and rigorous than your usual massage, limbs and joints are manipulated in a sequence of movements, inspired by yogic asana.
Thai massage pinpoints areas of built-up muscular tension as well as tension in the joints, adding mobility and enhancing the range of movement.
This makes Thai massage particularly beneficial to athletes.

In Thailand, it is considered to be energy work rather than bodywork. This is because traditional Thai massage technique works along the intricate network of “sen” (a Thai word meaning pathways or lines) that run throughout the body. It is believed that by physically stimulating the specific acupressure areas, you can help to shift areas of stagnant energy, allowing for a more healthy flow of energy within the body.

As with any expert massage, the release of joint and muscular tension leads to the benefit of an increased sense of well-being, however the acupressure techniques and facets of Chinese medicine employed in Thai massage have additional benefits in terms of releasing nerve tension, freeing energy flow and releasing emotional tension held within the body. The end result is a heightened sense of well-being and optimum relaxation.

Starting April 1st, we are honored to have one of our Team members, Kelly Gaither offer this service at the Space.
